New open resource tool features help users engage with content

Open Resource Interface Update

When I started as the Open Educational Resource (OER) Librarian over a year ago, I quickly found myself with more browser tabs open than I care to admit. Facilitating requests for Open Educational Resources felt a bit like a treasure hunt, one much like a National Treasure move where you uncover more clues and places to find items the more time you spend with existing resources. The more I found, the more I wanted to share – which led me to make the PowerApp, or version 0.0: Prometheus 🔥 that was previously available to those at Texas State University. While this app housed the names, URL, and basic description of a variety of resources –it did not effectively communicate how a user would engage with the application.

Athena 🦉 includes basic features, including some front-page matter, and over 300 resources.

Front page material – Getting Started, Using Notion, Future Developments, Version History

  • Open Resource Catalog – is the main database of resources. This is how custom views of other resources can be created, and offers a central location to reference for open resources.
  • Open Reference Resources – this view allows a user to see all of the items tagged as a reference resource – this includes entries that are repositories or refartories, as well as places that house course materials and other types of content.

More developments are forthcoming, so check back for more updates in the future!
