Calling all faculty and research scholars!
The Open Scholarship team at Texas State’s University Libraries (UL) is thrilled to extend a warm invitation to all faculty and research staff to participate in our inaugural Open Datathon as a competition judge. The Datathon will provide a journey into the dynamic world of data science and analytics right here at Texas State!
At the Open Datathon, student participants will dive into a transformative hands-on experience, attempting to answer predetermined challenges or research questions by using real-world open access datasets for meaningful impact within an interactive environment. Students will apply their knowledge to tasks ranging from fundamental data cleaning to advanced analytics. Meanwhile, the event offers a unique networking opportunity, providing participants with the chance to connect with like-minded peers and mentors.

- Date: February 16, 2024
- Location: Alkek Library
- Participants: TXST students
- Aims:
– Support an open data information initiative that utilizes existing datasets
provided by the Texas Data Repository and other open access data sources.
– Use open data to detect innovative data-driven insights that lead to
effective decision-making.
– Advance interdisciplinary collaboration by sharing relevant data and final
digital artifacts to support TXST university communities.
- Awards
– Each team project will be judged by a panel of experts based on a pre-
distributed rubric.
– The top three teams with the highest scores will be honored with awards.
– Recognition awards will also be provided for all judges.
