TXST Libraries selected to serve in cohort that defines AI literacy in postsecondary education

Texas State’s University Libraries (UL) will join a cohort of 46 academic institutions across the country for a project that will identify and prioritize core aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy. The effort which was spearheaded by the research and consulting service Ithaka S+R will consider how existing information literacy frameworks can be revised or adapted to include the influences of AI.

Libraries and librarians have unique expertise in the information environment, and are key providers of instruction services and resources in a host of other literacies including data, digital, and information literacies. – Ithaka S+R project description

The Texas State UL research team consists of Dr. Andrew Rechnitz, director of technology engagement; Dr. Darell Schmick, associate university librarian for library services; and Audrey Stewart, assistant director for information literacy and instruction. This team will conduct a series of interviews with Texas State students and instructors and will work with the cohort to share insights gained and produce a public report of their findings.

The project is expected to wrap up at the end of May 2026 and is expected to produce institution-specific and landscape-level pathways for integrating AI literacy into curricula.
