Introducing Peer Research Coaching at the Alkek Library

Hey Bobcats! The semester is winding down. Are you feeling overwhelmed? We know that schoolwork can cause stress and anxiety, but the library is here to help!

Led by students, created for students, the new Peer Research Coaching program at Alkek Library explores ways for students to learn from each other and work together collaboratively to ease school stress and library anxiety. You are welcome to drop by the library and get basic research and reference support from our highly trained student coaches between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What the Peer Research Coaches do?

Online chat service: research coaches will monitor online questions from patrons about the library, general research, reference questions, etc.

Research help: one-on-one research appointments with students offering guidance on research strategies, source evaluation, topic development, database usage, and more.

Example: A student needs help with a Pro/Con research paper in their English 1320 class. They must select a topic and find peer-reviewed sources. The research coach will guide them through developing their research topic and show them how to find reliable sources through the library website.

Where to find us? The peer research coaches are available for walk-up assistance on the 3rd floor of Alkek Library. Just ring the doorbell to the Alkek 301 Suite located across from the restrooms. You can also find us online using the  “Ask Us” chat service on our website.

Still stumped after working with our peer research coaches? No worries! Our librarians are still available to assist with more advanced research needs.
